The other very popular Dac we have been selling lots of over the past 12 months is the Arcam rDac.
Priced at just £325.00 it is the least expensive Dac out of the 3 we have featured on our blog. But don’t let that put you off, it really does punch above it’s relatively modest price point, especially if you are using the USB input.
The rDac’s connections look a little sparse in comparison to the other models, 1 optical input, 1 coaxial input and 1 USB input and a pair of RCA outputs.
It’s a little smoother and perhaps a bit more refined than the Musical Fidelity when using the optical or coaxial inputs. However, the rDac really comes to life when you use the USB input (Arcam have licensed from dCS their Asynchronous USB Technology) with either a PC or Mac.
The precision clock dramatically reduces jitter (timing inaccuracies) over USB and doing a comparison of a modest CD player connected to the rDac via coaxial vs the same track played via a PC over USB the difference is not subtle, in fact it’s rather dramatic.
